This privacy policy explains how SMG Swiss Marketplace Group AG (hereinafter "we", "us", "SMG") handles your personal data when you use weegee.ch (hereinafter the "service"), with whom we may share it and what rights you have.
We process your personal data in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection ("FADP") and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"). The privacy policy of SMG Swiss Marketplace Group applies in addition.

B How do we collect your data?
We collect data you provide to us (e.g. when registering, creating a listing or sending an enquiry) and data generated automatically when you use the service (e.g. log data). We also take over publicly available listings from third-party platforms.
C Scope and purpose of processing
Visiting the service (log files): IP address, date and time, pages visited, browser and operating system. Purpose: operation, security and error analysis.
User account: email address, name and, where applicable, profile picture. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication (Google), optionally via Google or Facebook login. Purpose: managing your account and listings.
Listings: details about the room or shared flat, photos, address, price, description and contact details. This information is shown publicly on weegee.ch. The address is geocoded to display it on the map and to calculate travel times.
Enquiries: when you contact advertisers or us, we process your message, name, email address and, where applicable, phone number and forward them to the respective advertiser.
Paid services: payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive full card details.
Fraud and abuse prevention: to protect our users, we check listings and accounts partly automatically, including by IP address, phone number (SMS verification) and content. In case of suspicion we may request additional proof of identity in accordance with our terms and conditions.
Analysis and improvement: we analyse the use of the service to improve it and fix errors.
D Profiling
To detect fraud, we assess listings and accounts automatically. An automated decision may lead to a listing being temporarily blocked; on request, a person will review it.
E Disclosure to third parties
We only share your data where necessary to provide the service, where you have consented or where we are legally obliged to. Within the SMG group, data may be shared for the purposes described in this policy. We use the following service providers:
- Amazon Web Services (hosting, image storage, SMS delivery; Frankfurt region)
- Google Firebase (authentication) and Google Maps (geocoding, maps)
- Postmark (email delivery)
- Stripe (payment processing)
- Sentry (error analysis)
- Hotjar (usage analysis)
- OpenAI (automated processing and review of listing texts)
We do not sell your data.
F Cookies and tracking
We use technically necessary cookies and local storage (e.g. for sign-in and to temporarily save forms). We use Hotjar for usage analysis and Sentry for error analysis. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; some features may then no longer be available.
G Transfer abroad
Some of the service providers listed are based in or process data in the USA. In these cases we ensure adequate protection, e.g. through the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
H How long do we keep your data?
We keep your data only as long as necessary for the purposes described or as required by law. Listings are deleted automatically after 42 days without an update. If you delete your account, your account data and listings are removed.
I How do we protect your data?
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encrypted transmission (HTTPS), access restrictions and regular updates. However, absolute security cannot be guaranteed for transmission over the internet.
J Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, to object and to withdraw consent. You can delete your account yourself at any time under Delete account. You may also lodge a complaint with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
