Description

Hi! We’re Kapil and Jacob, a couple in our mid-20s, looking for a new roommate to share our cozy and welcoming apartment in Basel. The move-in date is flexible. Kapil is in his last year of writing doctoral thesis at ETH Zurich while Jacob works as a school teacher. We recently moved to Basel to live together, Kapil from Zurich, and Jacob from Vienna (with a short stop in Bern). We’ve both lived in several countries, are well-travelled, and value a multicultural, open-minded, and respectful way of living.

About the apartment:

The apartment is very centrally located. It is just a 5–7 minute walk from Basel SBB with tram lines 1 and 2 stopping right outside the building. Even though it’s on a main street, it’s surprisingly quiet once the windows are closed. The apartment is fully furnished, well equipped, and filled with lots of plants. There’s also a coffee machine for slow, cozy mornings before work or uni. You’d only need to furnish your own room. If you’re looking for a place urgently, we’re happy to provide an air mattress for the first few days. You’ll be sharing the kitchen, living room, hallway and main bathroom (shower) with us. The apartment also has its own laundry tower (washer + dryer), which is super convenient. There is an additional toilet attached to our bedroom upstairs that we’d like to keep private.
The apartment is spread over two floors: the first floor has the living room, kitchen, room to rent, and bathroom. Upstairs is our bedroom, along with the second toilet and a mid-sized balcony that you’re very welcome to use. In the summer, we grow plants and some vegetables there, and we’re slowly turning it into an even cozier, relaxed outdoor space.

Rent & costs

• Rent: CHF 850 (slightly negotiable)
• Utilities: billed separately (electricity, water, gas, Wi-Fi), usually around CHF 60–70 per person per month

Who we’re looking for

Cleanliness is very important to us. We’re looking for someone who is clean, organized, and genuinely cares about keeping shared spaces tidy. You should be LGBTQ+ friendly, value sustainability, and approach shared living with kindness and respect. Although we’re both young, we appreciate a calm, peaceful home environment and genuine connections. It would be especially nice if you enjoy cooking — Jacob loves cooking — and are open to sharing meals, tea, or a drink together, while also respecting personal space and boundaries. You’re absolutely welcome to have friends or guests over as well, as long as we communicate and respect each other’s space — for us, it’s about a real sense of living together, not just sharing an apartment.

While Jacob is multilingual, Kapil primarily speaks English, so it’s important that you’re comfortable communicating in English to fully enjoy conversations and shared moments at home.

If this sounds like a good match, we’d be very happy to hear from you and get to know you! Please send us a brief introduction about your self, hobbies, values, how do you imagine living in a shared space, but not limited to.
